Nine crews are working at Caymanas Park to repair stables ravaged by the winds of Hurricane Dean which struck the island on Sunday.

This disclosed yesterday by CTL's racing secretary Denzil Miller Jr. who added that things seem on target for a resumption of racing next Wednesday, August 29.

With a $6.3 Pick-9 carryover in the offing, Miller said 12 races will be offered, including the open allowance feature for the Nigel B. Nunes Memorial Cup over the circular nine course. Supporting feature will be Race No. 2 in the second CTL Claiming series ($210,000 and less).

The Caymanas Park complex, like most of Jamaica, was still without electricity up to yesterday, but Miller is hoping that power will be restored by tomorrow. Simulcast racing (both English and American) resumed on Wednesday and reports indicate that punters have welcome it with open arms.

Assistance with water

On a different note, Miller said CTL has been assisting the surrounding Portmore community with water, hundreds of residents having converged onto the compound in search of this precious commodity.

Meanwhile in a press release yesterday, Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) said its Insurance Brokers - Frazer, Fontaine and Kong and the assessors for General Accident Jamaica Ltd have given the go ahead to effect repairs.

A summary of the damage is as follows:

A. More than 50 per cent of the stables have suffered roof damages, some sustaining minimal damage while others have lost their entire roof.

B. Other facilities that are sensitive to the conduct of racing have also been damaged

C. Sections of the North Lounge have suffered damages.

Our repairs crew and contractors have already began work and have completed some stables as well as minor damages to the rails of the race track.

We are in consultation with our stakeholders and every effort is being made to resume racing by Wednesday August 29. - O.C.
