Former CEO to break silence soon
published: Tuesday | August 21, 2007

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

Bruce Aanensen says he will break his silence on why he resigned as the West Indies Cricket Board's (WICB) chief executive officer, after the board meets in Barbados tomorrow.

"I have sent in my letter of resignation to the president. He has indicated to me that they are going to meet on Wednesday to discuss the letter and hence I think that it is inappropriate for me to comment on the matter at this point," the former banker told CMC Sports yesterday.

"Surely by Thursday of this week, I would be able to make a comment and give the reasons for my decision."

It is understood that Aanensen had grown increasingly frustrated in the job due to issues between himself and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA), headed by CEO Dinanath Ramnarine.

Aanensen, who took up the post of CEO in February earlier this year replacing Barbadian Roger Brathwaite, has had several battles with WIPA over players' contracts.

Just recently, WIPA called for his resignation as Ramnarine indicated to the WICB that he found him difficult to work with.

It is understood that Aanensen's frustrations were outlined in his letter to new WICB president Julian Hunte.
