NOTE-WORTHY: Jamaica war zone
published: Tuesday | August 21, 2007

Jamaica war zone

I would like to retire in Jamaica, but sadly I cannot. Under the rule of the PNP our precious island has become another war zone with territorial dons and no real control by the person, past or present, who is supposed to lead.

Jamaica has deteriorated under the leadership of the PNP to the extent that we would be better off under British rule today. I will return to Ja. tomorrow if the people will elect the only sensible person in the race right now to run the country. This is not about party politics, it is about who can get the job of turning around Jamaica done.

Portia should lead the union and leave the running of the country to an intelligent person who can make strategic instead of instant gratification plans. She is confident she will win because she is travelling on "ascension by default". I sincerely pray that Jamaicans will prove her wrong on election day.

The garrisons

Repentance is the act of changing one's mind. Webster defines the word as "to feel sorry for or reproachful for what one has done or has not done". Webster also gives the definition as to feel such regret and dissatisfaction over some past action or intention as to change one's mind about it or to change one's way. Are the PNP/JLP politicians, keepers of garrison constituencies ready and willing to repent and change ?

Family search

My name is Keith Sloane, formerly Keith Deer of Liverpool in the U.K. I was born in 1944.

I am trying to trace relatives of my father, who was known as George Hugh Deer (Boysie' to his brothers and sisters). I know George moved to either America or Canada in the 1940's after living in my birthplace Liverpool. He apparently died out there many years ago. I was given the address of 38 Camp Road, Kingston 4, Jamaica, as the last known address of one of his brothers called Johnny.

There were also some sisters - Winnie, Dolls and another whose name I don't have. I am trying to trace any living relatives of the Deer family still living in Jamaica or America to try and construct a family tree for my children and granddaughter so they have some sense of their history. I have managed to trace a half-brother George, who now lives in Scotland, after moving from Liverpool.

Searching for friend

I am searching for a long lost friend, Jacqueline McDermot. Fourteen years ago she was living in Ensom City, Spanish Town with a sister. She has three sisters and one brother. She was about 21 years old at the time, a domestic help going to evening college. I was stationed at a Kingston police station. Her dad was a pastor in the country. I owe her so much. I have lived in the U.K. over 15 years.
