SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:
SCORES OF curious onlookers turned up along the Port Henderson Road in Portmore, St. Catherine, yesterday, not for the usual fish, lobster and other goodies usually on offer, but rather to see the devastation of Rodney's Arm, a popular dining and entertainment location.
Only the concrete beams of the once popular Rodney's Arm survived the onslaught of the hurricane.
The road to the Forum Beach, which also leads to the Rodney's Arm restaurant, was transformed into a boat-wreck scene. Dozens of fishing boats were partially filled with sand that was whipped up from the sea during the strong winds associated with Hurricane Dean.
A ferry, which residents claim came all the way from Port Royal, pushed by the strong winds associated with the hurricane's passage, was seen on the shore of the Forum Beach. Several onlookers gawked in disbelief.
Along the Port Henderson Road, virtually all businesses and residents felt the wrath of the sea and other effects of the hurricane. When The Gleaner visited the scene, a front-end loader was seen moving debris from the premises.
Also effected were the residents who occupy shacks along the Old Port Henderson Beach.
Meanwhile, the road to Hellshire was rendered impassable yesterday as a result of fallen utility poles.
