Fresh polls for St Lucia?
published: Monday | August 13, 2007

CASTRIES, St. Lucia (CMC):

Political commentator Jeffrey Stewart says Prime Minister Sir John Compton could soon dissolve Parliament and call fresh general elections to bring back stability to the country.

Speaking during a weekend radio broadcast here, Stewart said that since coming into power in December last year, the governing United Workers Party administration had not settled down, and Sir John's medical condition has fuelled what appears to be a leadership struggle within the Government.

However, he questioned the preparedness of the Opposition St. Lucia Labour Party to return to government at this time, noting that most of its former ministers were employed overseas and would be unable to return to contest general elections.
