Fresh from his winning performance in the Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) Easter Weekend Classic, Jardine emerged overall champion of the 18-hole 7/8 Stableford event, amassing 44 points to take the SAJ Gold Cup. He also won a weekend for two with golf at the Half Moon hotel, a framed Everard Powell painting, and gift baskets from First Global Financial Services, GraceKennedy and Lascelles Wines and Spirits.
Maggie Lyn, last year's overall champion, gave another splendid performance worth 38 points to capture the Kingston Wharves Limited (KWL) trophy. She was also awarded an Everard Powell painting, dinner at the Jamaica Pegasus, and a gift basket from P.A. Benjamin. Lyn also won the ladies' longest-drive prize of a brand-new driver, sponsored by Maritime and Transport Services Limited.
A full field of 100 golfers supported the Marcus Garvey Basic School, the beneficiary of the tournament that was organised by the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ).
Tremendous success

Trevor Riley, SAJ general manager and chairman of the event's organising committee, noted that the event was "a tremendous success in terms of both sponsorship and golfer support". He made special mention of the support from gold sponsor, Kingston Wharves Limited, and silver sponsors, Seaboard Jamaica Limited, NCB Capital Markets, APM Terminals Jamaica Limited, First Global Financial Services, Port Computer Services, Capital & Credit Financial Services, Safety and Industrial Supplies and Assessment Recoveries Limited.
At the awards luncheon sponsored by Caribbean Broilers, Lillan Limited and Lascelles Wines & Spirits, SAJ President Michael Bernard noted that "the continued success of the Shipping Industry Benefit Golf Tournament has made it an established highlight of the golf calendar after only three years".
He thanked the players for their support of the event and paid special tribute to SAJ General Manager Trevor Riley, who was mainly responsible for the impeccable organisation of the smoothly run tournament, and the Caymanas Golf and Country Club for their kind cooperation in again hosting the tournament.
To the loud applause of an appreciative audience, Grantley Stephenson, chairman and CEO of KWL, announced his company's commitment as a sponsor of next year's tournament. He also invited all players to participate in next year's competition with the promise of "great prizes and gifts and a day of enjoyment".
In addition to a delectable lunch and valuable prizes, all participants were presented with gifts that included a bag from the SAJ, designer golf shirt from Seafreight Agencies Ltd., golf caps from Emirates Line, pens, key rings and other souvenirs.
