Waiting in lineDisembarking the train from Mississauga, this first-time Jamaican visitor spotted the bus I was instructed to take to downtown Toronto. Darting to the bus door, I suddenly became aware of penetrating eyes, immediately realising that the other people were actually standing in line waiting their turn to enter the same bus. Embarrassingly, I moved to the back of the queue and waited my turn to board. Getting in line is a standard civic route to accessing service in clean and orderly Canada. Unfortunately, this innate Canadian way of life is breached outside their embassy here in Kingston, where no order exists as Jamaicans seeking a visa are made to claw and fight their way into the Canadian consulate. Mr. High Commissioner, please help us to enter your Jamaican property with the same dignity in which we hope to enter your lovely, orderly Canadian homeland.

Pothole havocI was in Jamaica just a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful. It always brings back thesavoured memories of my childhood and makes me realise what a solid foundation I had. I couldn't help but notice the condition of the roads going from the airport to Portland. We travelled the eastern part of the island every day, going from the tip of Portland back to St. Mary. It generally took us almost three hours to travel this distance but you cannot speed because of having to circumvent the potholes. They create havoc on cars and drivers. While the new roads are easy to drive on, the others need urgent maintenance.

Hospital closuresJohn Junor's statement about hospitals closed by Dr. Baugh almost 20 years ago has left me very puzzled. Why is it that after being in power for such a very long time, the PNP did not reopen these hospitals or whatever else Dr. Baugh is supposed to have closed? If the PNP felt that an injustice was done to Jamaica and Jamaicans by these 'ancient' closures, why is it that for the numerous years they have been in power they have not corrected this injustice and reopened the hospitals? It is the same John Junor making the accusations who was Minister of Heath for so many of those years. With four terms under its belt, the PNP has had more than ample time to show us how much it cares and to correct whatever wrongs it now blames on the JLP.
