Drivers 'online' for high-speed clash
published: Monday | August 6, 2007

Glenroy Sinclair, Assignment Coordinator

Outside of horse racing today at Caymanas Park, the biggest sporting event on this afternoon is the Cable & Wireless Online High- Speed, Independence race meet at Dover Raceway in St. Ann, where the country's top race drivers clash in what is expected to be a thrilling and exciting showdown.

The tempo has built up significantly and according to one driver who was at the Dover Raceway on the weekend, yesterday was like a regular raceday as scores of drivers were there practising, getting ready for today's clashes. The first event is scheduled to get under way shortly after mid-day, following the blessing of the track and the playing of the National Anthem.

Hard to beat

Among the top guns who will be on show are Clinton 'Pinky' McGann, a daredevil-like driver who will be hard to beat once his car is in good condition. His knowledge of the track is also an advantage.

All eyes though will be on the crowd favourites Doug Gore, Peter 'Bull' Thomspon, David Summerbell, Peter Rae and Marck Carey, when they take the track for the GTS and Modified Production classes.

"I am ready," said Peter Rae, who will be parading his Autodon/New York Brake RX7 Mazda.

Outside of the 'top guns' are some other interesting drivers, including the Bowla team, which comprise Christopher and Errol. At the last race meet, Christopher, cheered on by scores of his relatives - all attired in white tops and jeans bottom - turned in a good performance.

Wife and husband, Paul and Lisa Lee and team mates; Wayne Wallace, Ian Galbraith and Keone Williams are expected to give a good account of themselves. Reports are that the other teams are ready, but the team to watch is Team MoBay.

Included in Team MoBay are the Gore brothers - Matthew and Doug, Guy Fraser, Gary Williams, Kirk Edwards and Richard Chan.

The lone female team, 'Team Mack Attack', will be represented by Marcia Dawes (Mitsubishi Mirage RS) and Michelle Delfosse (Isuzu Gemini).
