The air was charged with excitement at the ninth annual Little Ochie Seafood Carnival. It was a festive atmosphere as patrons turned out in droves to sample the mouth-watering food and to check out the entertainment package.

Vendors were plying their wares added to the kaleidoscope of colours that were on display, as the patrons and the items sold vied for a position with the rainbow. There was an abundance of different seafood on display that tantalised the taste buds. The wonderful gastronomic delights had bodies filling the restaurants and booths to feast on the different seafood dishes that were served with side dishes such as festivals.

Even though a staple part of the carnival, the food was only one aspect, as there was also entertainment. From the magical tricks of Merick 'Nutty Professor' Panton to the food demonstration by the festival's founder Evrol 'Blackie' Christian, there was something for everyone.

Entertainment

Some patrons rocked to the music of yesteryear that blared through the speakers, while others took a dip in the sea to cool down as a result of a very hot and windless day. Others played games and the children had rides and other amusement park attractions to choose from.

The grand finale of the day came while the sun playfully lay against the sea in a majestic hue. It is said that dancing is a staple part of Jamaica's culture, and that was very evident as there was a dancing competition (of course), and the children led the way. In fact, two little girls were awarded monetary prizes. Other winners got gift baskets from some of the event sponsors.

That was just a small taste leading up to the final hurrah. There were acts like Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, Leroy Sibbles and George Nooks, among others. Even at 9:30 p.m. persons were still outside lining up to get inside. So, make it a date next year to visit the Little Ochie Seafood Festival in Alligator Pond. It is a place to take the entire family.
