Old habits die hard
published: Friday | July 13, 2007

AT THE Telefood concert in Oracabessa, St. Mary, in late 1998, MC Hugh Crosskill poked at Agriculture Minister Roger Clarke's generous waistline. Crosskill joked that it looked as if Mr. Clarke were eating his Cabinet colleague's meals.

Not one to be flustered, Mr. Clarke said, "Him can gwaan, a fat man the woman dem want."

Mr. Clarke, Member of Parliament for North East St. Elizabeth, never misses a chance to make fun of his hefty frame. Credit to him, the 67-year-old Minister has tried to beat the battle of the bulge.

His determination to shed some pounds is evident in this 2004 photograph, especially in his facial features. Heseems to have gone back to his 'old' ways if recent photos are anything to go by.

In this 2006 shot, his now famous girth returned. Mr. Clarke still fancies a nibble or few at the buffet, but if anyone thinks this unrepentant 'foodie' will be crying in his milk, he/she has another thing coming.

He may be 72 years old, but Central Clarendon MP Mike Henry competes with East Central St. Catherine MP K.D. Knight as the dandy of the political scene.

Mr. Henry has a reputation for making off-the-cuff remarks and wearing sharp threads which he loves to show off in Parliament or at high-profile events such as carnival.

Back in 1992, Mr. Henry looked quite the Mack in suit and designer glasses. Fast-forward 15 years and the goatee has given way to a clean look, but the hot frames and flashy suits remain.

Although some of his statements have got him in hot water with both sides of the 'House', Mr. Henry is not a political animal. After all, he once said that as long as he has the beach and sex, he is quite all right.
