West Indies coach David Moore.DUBLIN, Ireland (CMC):
West Indies will seek to use the impetus from their one-day International series win against England as they open their quadrangular series against The Netherlands today.
The regional team completed a remarkable comeback after a wretched Test series to carve out a 2-1 victory and will now look to carry that success into the tournament here which also includes Scotland and hosts Ireland.
"We've come to Ireland from the last series with a bit of momentum and the players have been playing well and coming together as a group and hopefully we can take that momentum into this series," coach David Moore said yesterday.
"Every game that the players represent the West Indies, they take seriously and look to win and win well. There will be some young playerslooking for opportunities and if they get their opportunities they will have to take those.
"We are very serious about this series, we are looking to go through undefeated and play as best we can."
Moore said he was very impressed with the way West Indies captured the ODI series against England, batting and bowling brilliantly to win the decider at Trent Bridge by 93 runs Saturday.
Behind half-centuries from Chris Gayle (82) and Runako Morton (82 not out), West Indies rattled up 289 for five. Fast bowlers Daren Powell (4-40) and Fidel Edwards (3-30) then rattled the English to secure a comfortable victory.
"It was a comprehensive win for us. We batted very well, fielded well and our bowling was outstanding, so I don't think we could have got much better in terms of what we were trying to achieve," Moore said.
West Indies will follow up with matches against Scotland on Thursday and Ireland on Saturday, all scheduled for the Clontarf Cricket Club.
Moore told reporters his side was keeping a close eye on Ireland who emerged as the surprise of this year's World Cup in the Caribbean.
They beat Pakistan in Jamaica to dump the Asian giants out of the event and along with the West Indies, secured qualification to the Super Eight round.
"I was very impressed with Ireland (in the World Cup). We saw them beat Pakistan and they played very well," Moore noted.
Looking to the young players
"They have some very good young players in their team and I am looking to them being very competitive in this series. They are a very good team, there is no doubt about that.
"We are very aware of their good record at home against the West Indies. We are very cautious about that and we don't want that to happen again."
It is expected that West Indies will give the younger players in the squad a run against the weaker opponents, especially with no opportunity possible against England.
Batsmen Austin Richards Jr. and Lendl Simmons are likely to get their first games along with all-rounder Darren Sammy who has yet to find a place in the starting XI.
All-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out of the series with an ankle injury and has remained in London to have the ankle examined and treated. He will return to the Caribbean afterwards.
West Indies have not called up a replacement for the tour.
