Changing the political landscape
published: Thursday | June 7, 2007

With a general election in the air, it is important for us to note just how far Jamaica has come in terms of providing a level playing field for voters and those who wish to get voted in.

We, the electorate, have benefited from this change in no uncertain terms and one of the men who made it easier for us is director of elections, Danville Walker.

During his first two terms in the post, starting with the 1997 election and leading up to the 2002 vote, Mr. Walker was responsible for creating what was, at the time, the cleanest voter's list in the country's tainted electoral history.

Since that time, he has earned the respect of the Peoples National Party (PNP) and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and is revered by all for his no-nonsense approach to his duties.

This week, as we continue to look at Peter Ferguson's book, Changemakers, we note the powerful image of the man who has changed Jamaica's political landscape. A true changemaker.
