The hottest talk on the cocktail circuit
published: Thursday | June 7, 2007

1. Mixed reviews, that's how some are grading the move afoot to recast the image. While many agree that the image was in need of a makeover, some are questioning the manner in which it is being effected. The importation of a foreign photographer and image consultancy firm is not sitting well, as some say it shows a lack of respect for our own people.

Super buying spree

2. The portfolio has now become regional with news out of Trinidad and Tobago of new acquisitions. There's also talk that one local entity is being eyed by the cash-rich business that has been on a super buying spree since coming to the fore last year.

Where are the paintings?

3. There's no love lost for the 'fallen one' now living overseas. As the story goes, he was less than kind when he sat atop the empire, ruling more like a despot. One of his former top-flight lieutenants is questioning what has happened to the paintings and other great pieces which disappeared from inventory.

Missing party man

4. The question on everyone's lips, all across the political divide, is: With election fever running high, what has happened to the one-time high-profile political operative? Some of his colleagues are still visible, but he has been missing in action for some time now. Some say he has lost his lust for politics!

Offshore moves

5. It's not just the resources that are offshore. The principals too have moved off-shore. And when they visit, a jet is always on standby - Just in case!

Where's our share?

6. The awardees and nominees are asking that since they are the ones footing the brunt of the production cost by the donation of their time, goods and services for the 'privilege' of being there, shouldn't the hefty price being charged go to them to offset costs, and not to the organisers?

Polls and parties

7. It's not that the majority would not like to see a change in the political status quo. The fact that the parties keep registering a statistical dead-heat in polls, is a reflection of the trepidation the majority have in some members in the opposing line-up!

Don't bother to call!

8. The yacht has been on sale for the last two years but there's no buyer! And don't bother calling the ranch as the phone will ring unanswered! There are bills to be paid but another expensive property has been purchased.

Beauty beast

9. It was the political surprise of the season, but the question being asked is: Can the beauty tame the beast of the north-shores?

Why contest the will?

10. He was quite wealthy! He contracted a terminal infection. His family ignored him and totally ostracised him after the diagnosis! His friend and companion of many years stepped in and cared for him and made him feel very welcomed in her home. He passed away. He left his fortune to the friend turned caregiver! Why then are the relatives and children contesting the Will?
