Several licensed firearm holders, especially those deemed to be associated with criminals, are now being probed by Operation Kingfish, which has launched a major investigation into the matter."Since the start of this year, we have made recommendations for some of these firearm licences to be revoked," head of Operation Kingfish, Assistant Commissioner Glenmore Hinds, disclosed to The Gleaner yesterday.
Reports are that some of the affected firearm holders are persons who have been living overseas for some time, and others whose actions and associations have attracted the attention of the police.
In the meantime, Operation Kingfish issued a statement yesterday which states that it is probing the circumstances concerning the disappearance of two licensed firearms issued to Junior Williams, a 40-year-old businessman of Seaview Gardens, St. Andrew.
The police said he was issued with five licensed firearms, but could only account for three. This was brought to the attention of the police, following his arrest in March on charges of shooting and wounding with intent of a Seaview Gardens resident.
"This is somebody who we have had an interest in. He has been under surveillance for several months," said ACP Hinds.
