The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) drops robbery charges against teens
published: Saturday | May 26, 2007

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has dropped the charges against the two female teenagers who were charged jointly with former teacher, 34-year-old Steve McCalla.

The three were charged with robbery with aggravation involving two Life of Jamaica insurance agents.

The allegations are that on March 14 last year, calls were made to the two female agents telling them that persons at an apartment in New Kingston wanted to buy insurance policies.

When the women turned up at the apartment at different times that day, they were allegedly tied up, beaten and robbed of money, credit cards and their motor cars.

Freed themselves

The female agents managed to free themselves and reported the matter to the police.

McCalla, 19-year-old higgler, Crystal Lewis and 17-year-old Tashena Bromfield were subsequently arrested and charged.

The DPP entered a nolle prosequi (no proceedings) yesterday when the two teenagers appeared in the Home Circuit Court.

McCalla was remanded and he will be tried on July 23.
