published: Tuesday | May 15, 2007

MARSHALL

Discarded West Indies player, Xavier Marshall, was in top form on the weekend for St. Ann against St. Catherine Parish in the Red Stripe Championship at Port Esquivel.

Marshall, who made his Test debut in 2005 against Sri Lanka, scored a whirlwind century and took six wickets in the match as St. Ann beat St. Catherine Parish on first innings.

St. Catherine first made 265 with Nkrumah Bonner getting 87 and Erron Downer, 63, against Patrick Harty (4-46) and Marshall (2-45).

In reply, Marshall and Marlon Johnson led St. Ann off to a very good start - 149 for the first wicket. St. Ann were bowled out for 270.

Marshall, who was aggressive from start to finish, brought up his first 50 off 25 deliveries and got to 100 after facing 64 deliveries.

In total, Marshall faced 79 deliveries for his 117, striking 10 fours and eight sixes in 91 minutes.

Johnson supported with 52 against Bonner (5-62) and Colin Buchanan, who picked up the wicket of Marshall (4-64).

St. Catherine made 184 in their second innings. Downer led the way with 48 against Marshall (4-26) and Harty (2-46).

Set 179 to win, St. Ann were 63-two at the close, Marshall again leading the way with 31.

AT COLLIE SMITH DRIVE: Despite an unbeaten 109 from Marlon Keating, who carried his bat, Kingston & St. Andrew were the weekend's other winner, beating Boys' Town by six wickets.

Kingston & St. Andrew scored 167 (Gary Pink 45; Phillip Keating 3-37) and 55-4 (Keating (2-15).

Boys' Town, who fell for 66 in their first innings against Anthony Brown (5-26), recovered to post 155 in their second innings, thanks to Marlon Keating's century. Pink took 5-32.

At Jarrett Park: In a rain-hit game, St. Thomas 230 (Steve Logan 61; Christopher Watson 5-58), and St. James 143-5 (Venroy Crooks 69, Ian Morgan 2-22, Omar Brooks 2-28), ended in a no-result.

At Elletson Road: Chan Wakefield scored a big century to help Hanover to first innings honours over Police.

Wakefield scored 140 not out (25x4, 2x6) and Kadian McKenzie, 51, in Hanover's 272. Rohan Belight took 4-46.

Police replied with 225. Demetrius Francis top scored with 74, while Balwin Virgo chipped in with 45. Damion Distin picked up 5-44 and Kenneth Beckford 4-82.

In their second turn at the crease, Hanover were 226-6 when bad light stopped play. McKenzie made 51 against Marvin James 5-62.
