Giving mom all the love
published: Tuesday | May 15, 2007

Krista Henry, Staff Reporter

Peabo Bryson strums a guitar during his set at the 'To Mom With Love' concert, held on the Lawns of King's House, Hope Road, on Sunday.

Mother's Day was made even more special for the lucky mothers at 'To Mom With Love' held on the lawns of King's House last Sunday night.

The likes of Peabo Bryson and Jeffrey Osborne held patrons in euphoria for much of the night.

Under a clear yet chilly night, patrons rocked to the stirrings of Digicel Rising Star Nickeisha Barnes.

Decked out in a sexy bright red dress, Barnes belted out Natural Woman in fine style. A mother herself, she kept the vibe mellow and soothing for the other mothers in the crowd.

With her own mother in the crowd, she dedicated Love Me A Little Harder to her, saying "to my mommy, I practiced that one just for you, I love you so I put the effort into it." An effort that was well appreciated by the responsive crowd. For the men in the crowd she then went into To Sir With Love followed by I Will Survive.

Backed by the First Gumption Band, Benji Myaz flowed as his sweetly melodic voice rippled over the crowd.

Going into Mama I Love You, Myaz said, "This song goes out to mom and all the mothers here tonight."

He continued to rock the crowd with Time and Lover's Paradise but it was when he sang You Take Me Higher that the patrons in the back of the crowd got up and sang along.

Accompanied by Dean Fraser on saxophone, Myaz performed one more song and left the stage, ending the first section of the night.

Compere, Paula-Anne Porter announced a brief band change to usher in Peabo Bryson, who the crowd was happy to know was in the building.

With exclamations from the crowd, Bryson entered the stage dressed in white.

The crowd finally got active, getting up and rocking as he went into Once In A Lifetime, If Ever You're In My Arms Again and Can You Stop The Rain. Bryson then invited Kristy Wright on stage for the duet Toinght I Celebrate My Love For You.

Pleasing the crowd

These ladies were obviously having a good time at the 'To Mom With Love' concert, held on the lawns of King's House, Hope Road, on Sunday, May 13.

With an attempt to raise the intensity of the crowd, he went in more upbeat songs before going to a crowd pleaser A Whole New World. After about an hour on stage, Bryson left but not before going into the crowd and singing, handing out roses to the ladies who flocked around him waiting for one.

After 11p.m., Jeffrey Osborne cameon stage. Getting the strongest reaction from the crowd, Osborne was spot on with I'll Be There, Shine On and many more hits.

Having previously performed in Jamaica, Osborne claimed its always a delight.

"I always have a good time when I come to Jamaica," he said.

The crowd obviously enjoyed it as well as they danced, rocked and sang along word for word.

Osborne ended on songs such as On The Wings Of Love and You Should Be Mine. For many mothers it was a night to remember.
