August Town keep soaring
published: Monday | April 16, 2007

A ruthless August Town stayed focused on mowing down anyone standing between them and moving up the Wray and Nephew National Premier League table following a 3-1 win over Arnett Gardens at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.

Just weeks ago, the team which gained promotion to top flight this season, barely dared to entertain thoughts of escaping relegation, but with five out of six wins since the start of the third round, that is a worry now long past.

Kadian Lecky slammed in his second goal in as many games to give the in-form August Town a second-minute lead.

However, the pacey Kwame Richardson would soon see the teams again on level terms with his 21st-minute strike.

Insult

The daring August Town again stole the lead in the 61st minute through Zico Herrera and then, to add insult to Arnett Gardens' injury, netted again in time added on, this time through Tafari O'Connor.

"We didn't play all that well today but our goalkeeper had a terrible game in goal and that really let us down today," remarked a disappointed Glendon 'Admiral' Bailey, coach of a struggling Arnett Gardens team that has won only one out of six games since the start of the final round.

"We were hoping for a strong finish. This is a disappointing loss but we just have to try and pick ourselves up from here and go again," he added.

Solid performance

August Town's assistant coach, Dominique Spaulding, was pleased with another solid performance from his team, who lost their only game of the round to league leaders Harbour View.

"The guys had a really good game today. We kept pace with Arnett who are a running team and defensively we tracked really well," an elated Spaulding remarked.

"The players have really started to believe in themselves a lot more, they have really dug in and this has been and excellent string of results for them," he added.

"With relegation out of the question we are just looking to finish as high up (the table) as possible," he said.

August Town stayed in sixth place on 40 points, while Arnett (35) dropped to eighth place following Village United's 2-0 victory over Naggo Head.
