Village United yesterday recorded their second win in succession with a 2-0 defeat over Naggo Head at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League.

With the win, they inched up to 37 in the points table.

Lacon Brissett on the stroke of half-time and Edward Campbell in the 74th minute were the scorers for Village United who on Thursday clipped Seba United 1-0.

Coach Fitzroy 'Johnny' Reid was more than pleased with the performance of his players despite the low standard of the game.

"I think it was a scrappy game but we did enough to win. We had to make some adjustments today because of yellow cards and injuries and so forth but it was a positive result so we are happy," he said.

Naggo Head's Wayne Fairclough felt that his players were victims of their own inconsistency.

"I think that consistency has always been our problem. I think the result today, even if it was a draw, would not have helped our cause, but I think we have to congratulate the Village team because they played with more purpose," Fairclough said.

In truth, the game was not one of the best for spectators but there were occasional moments of brightness which would have brought pleasure. Among the moments of brightness was Brissett's goal. After a miskick by a defender, Brissett controlled the ball with his left foot and curled it home from about 10 yards.

Substitute Campbell had a chance to increase his team's lead in the 47th minute but he chose to blast a shot from six yards out and struck the crossbar. A follow-up by Damion Newton was turned away for a corner.

Naggo Head occasionally showed that they were in the game with captain Layton Barrett, the veteran Denton Shedden and young Theo Brown trying to rally their team. They had little success.

When it appeared that the contest was petering out to a boring end, Campbell nipped behind the defense to score by toeing home a pass before being taken down by goalkeeper Leon Goffe.

In the remaining minutes Village got numerous opportunities to hit the back of the net but Leon Irving and Newton Sterling missed chances on three occasions.
