Mega jackpot
published: Saturday | March 31, 2007

Jah Foresight, Contributor

The lotto jackpot is at a whopping $120 million. Since the start of lotto in November 1994, I cannot recall the jackpot being so high. Surprisingly, I feel that most people fell asleep and did not get to buy their ticket due to distraction in the sporting arena. Jamaicans love their sports and now all eyes are on cricket, especially with the Windies losing to Australia.

We just had a football match at 'The Office' with Panama. Boys and Girls Champs climaxes today at the National Stadium. A Rasta princess is now the winner of Miss Jamaica Universe.

The numbers for last Saturday were 2, 17, 18, 20, 29, 37 and the bonus ball, 36. The consecutive numbers were 17 and 18, and these numbers sent the jackpot to $100,000,000 with a winner of the bonus ball of $1,517,469. Things did not change on Wednesday night as the jackpot was increased to $120,000,000. The winning numbers were 6, 7, 16, 26, 27, 33 and the bonus ball, 11. The consecutive numbers were 6, 7 and 26 with 27. There was one winner of the bonus ball section with $1,744,064. The last time this section was in the million was on January 14, 2006, with $1,252,680.

Biggest talk

The death of Bob Woolmer has taken over the headlines and has been officially ruled a murder. The biggest talk is that many Pakistani and Indian cricketers are fearful of going home. Most have to be 'kotching' in England or other cities. Some lands take the game too seriously. One should not waste valuable time waiting at an airport to harass cricketers when they return. I hope we will not hear about any more burning of houses. This is just a sport.

I am deeply concerned about the acts of violence taking place in our high schools. These youths live in a garrison setting and are just counting down the day when they have to take the baton and run with it. Most of the youths are carrying or hiding guns since they were toddlers and now they want to own their own machines.

There is little or no intention for academic pursuits, which should be the main reason for attending school. Every urban ghetto youth wants to be a deejay, as if it is a degree from college. The first stage of madness is the braiding of hair, bleaching and the piercing of the ears. This is the biggest sign of being unemployable.

I remembered when I was in high school. Caning was a very important part of life. Expulsion and suspension were like prison sentences that a thug should never get. The cane did not kill any of us. Nowadays, the teachers have no talk and the ministry will defend the students.

Hot rake

This is my hot rake. A couple weeks ago, I made an appeal for two dogs in this column. Two lovely ladies made offers of puppies. I have been corresponding with Lady Trelawny. I realise that I will have to build a concrete kennel in the backyard. My carpenter was working on the kennel yesterday when he realised that there were two lizards in the back of the car.

I was telling one of my female co-workers who had a puncture on the road. While she was removing her spare tyre, she realised that she had a nice lizard living in her boot. You can imagine the screaming and the demand for me to kill the reptile. I do not like to kill anything that I cannot eat and she was totally unhappy with my philosophy. I will be going for number 31 in this draw.

The jackpot is up for the winning. I did not notice any long line for Wednesday's draw. I hope the regular players will remember that lotto is still the game, even with cricket around.
