The Editor, Sir:When my son went over to Devon House (next door to us) last Friday night to 'beg' the music makers to turn down the sound so that he could study for his exams, he did not expect to be confronted by a guard who showed my son his gun and told him to leave (which of course, he did).
This actually happened to him, to my horror.
However, when I called the police to 'beg' them to go and do something about the terrible nuisance that had been emanating and blasting and booming and screaming from Devon House parking lot/back lawns for the past six days and nights, I fully expected them to fail in whatever feeble, symbolic effort they would make in this regard.
Sanity savagely invaded
No amount of pretty little notices handed out to people living nearby, will excuse this downright abuse of our right to some peace and quiet, our children's right to study in their rooms in peace, our right to hear our own televisions, and not to have our homes and our sanity savagely invaded by insane and insupportable noise from people "just trying to enjoy themselves and make some money."
This is the worst of it so far, and no end in sight as the deterioration of our society continues apace.
Lastly, I have to ask myself, "Is this cricket?"
I am, etc.,
