Although the Daytime Emmy Awards aren't broadcast until June 15 on CBS, here is something to debate with fellow soap fans until then: the nominees. CBS soaps clearly dominated the daytime-drama spectrum (don't forget, the Emmys honor all of daytime programming, including children's shows and talk shows), and while I agree most of the nominees are worthy, NBC and ABC soap fans have to be disappointed. Either way, it's always worth tuning in to see the fashions, clips of your favorite scenes and, all in all, just to celebrate this medium you grew up watching with your grandma.

On March 14, CBS's The Early Show announced the 2007 Daytime Emmy nominees. The following are this year's contenders for the best in soaps:

Outstanding Lead Actress: Crystal Chappell (Olivia, Guiding Light); Jeanne Cooper (Katherine, The Young and the Restless); Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, Y&R); Maura West (Carly, As the World Turns); Kim Zimmer (Reva, GL).

Outstanding Lead Actor: Peter Bergman (Jack, Y&R); Anthony Geary (Luke, General Hospital); Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus, GL); Christian LeBlanc (Michael, Y&R); Michael Park (Jack, ATWT).

Outstanding Supporting Actress: Genie Francis (Laura, GH); Renee Elise Goldsberry (Evangeline, One Life to Live); Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth, GH); Lesli Kay (Felicia, The Bold and the Beautiful); Gina Tognoni (Dinah, GL); Heather Tom (Kelly, OLTL).

Lastly, Outstanding Drama Series: The Bold and the Beautiful, Guiding Light, One Life to Live and The Young and the Restless.

It's nice to see some names who are no longer on soaps, especially Dan Gauthier and Heather Tom, who were written out of OLTL this year even though they were two of the show's best performers. Lesli Kay is also a deserved nominee. She hasn't been featured much on B&B in recent months, but her cancer storyline was absolutely heartbreaking. The fact that she was a recast (Felicia was previously played by Colleen Dion), yet was able to get viewers to warm up to her so quickly, is a credit to her acting ability.

One actor who might find himself with an Emmy in his hand someday is Scott Bryce. He playedCraig Montgomery on ATWT in the 1980s and returned in the mid-'90s to the role he made popular. After having starred in a few primetime shows, including the cult hit Popular, Bryce will be back in Oakdale as Craig starting April 10. Sadly, the current Craig, Jeffrey Meek has been let go to make way for Bryce's return. Hopefully, another soap will snatch him up to play another shifty character. Bryce was nominated for two Daytime Emmys as Craig during his previous reign, but never won. Maybe the third time is the charm?
