Apprentice Lewis, Spence suspended

Apprentice Harriston Lewis, who rode CARIBBEAN MINISTER in the fifth race on Saturday, February 24 was suspended by the Stewards for one raceday, this for interference caused to LATIN KING in the vicinity of the 200-metre point.

His suspension will take effect on Saturday, March 10.

In other disciplinary actions taken by the Stewards at inquiries held last Tuesday, jockey Ian Spence was also suspended for one raceday for careless riding aboard RUCKUS in the ninth race on Saturday, February 17, this for causing interference to DON DON leaving the half mile. His suspension also takes effect on March 10.

Apprentice Carlton Malcolm, who rode RIO INFINITO in the eighth race on Saturday, February 17 was severely cautioned for the problems caused to RAGING FURY in the vicinity of the 200-metre point.

Apprentice Jason Simpson, who rode STORMY SKY in the fifth race on Wednesday, February 21, was fined $2,000 for the intimidation caused to HAFIFA in the final 200 metres.

Jockey Devon A.Thomas, who rode BREAKING NEWS in the sixth race on Saturday, January 20 was summoned to explain his riding of the horse. After hearing his explanation, he was severely cautioned on the tactics he employed in the race.
