The trial of the woman and two men charged jointly with the murder of former president of the Jamaica Gasolene Retailers Association (JGRA), 62-year-old Lloyd G. Brown, and his 49-year-old fiancee, Sandra Campbell was put off yesterday. They are Sandra Watt, household helper who was employed to Campbell; Donald Whyte, labourer, of a Kingston address and 39-year-old Peter Dougal, of Santoy district, Hanover.
The case has been put for mention on Friday in the Home Circuit Court for another trial date to be set. The case could not start yesterday because a murder case which began last week was continuing in the same court in which their case was set for trial.
All in custody
Watt was not taken to court yesterday. The three accused are in custody. Watt has been offered bail in the sum of $150,000 with a surety, but she has not taken up the bail offer.
Dougal has been in custody since he was arrested in June 2005 for the double murder. Dougal's trial was set for trial in October last year but had to be put off because of the recent arrests of the other two accused.
Brown and Campbell were fatally shot about 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2005, at Campbell's home at Stilwell Road, Stony Hill, St. Andrew.
Later that day the police went to premises at Vineyard Town where a group of men allegedly engaged them in a shoot-out.
It is being alleged that, during the incident, Dougal was shot and injured and two firearms recovered. Dougal was allegedly found in possession of Brown's photograph.
Forensic tests done on the guns proved that one of them was used to murder Brown and Campbell.
The police have theorised that it was a contract killing.
