My style
published: Monday | March 5, 2007

Part of what defines many successful women is their sense of style. For Jackie Kennedy Onassis, it was her trademark pillbox hat. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is always perfectly accessorised and there is a hat and brooch for each outfit. And where would we be without Coco Chanel's little black dress?

Many women have a passion for shoes, some prefer bags while others just love their old comfortable jeans. Whatever the preference, today's woman knows that what's on the body is almost as important as what's inside the brain.

Flair asked our guest editors to say what their favourite fashion or accessory item was or, if stranded somewhere far from home, what item they would be more likely to take if given a choice? This is what they shared with us.

Audrey Marks

Audrey Marks almost never goes anywhere without her string of pearls.

Audrey Hinchcliffe

Manpower and Maintenance Services' CEO Audrey Hinchcliffe is all powerful and her favourite black pant suit. Fits her persona so very well.

"I can alwaysrelax when going on a business trip and a black pant suit is in my luggage. The well-tailored black pant suit is versatile, you can dress it up or down, mix and match it with any colour and wear it from day into night," the businesswoman said.

Yvonne Grinam-Nicholson

Yvonne Grinam-Nicholson's transparent orbs with gold trimmings make her fit right into her comfort zone. Yvonne Grinam-Nicholson just wouldn't feel the same without her earrings.

Some women feel almost naked without their earrings and Yvonne Grinam-Nicholson is among them. She has quite a collection and cannot imagine not having a pair everywhere.

"I can understand the woman who keeps a spare pair at work or in her cosmetic bag," she said during our round-table discussion.

Sara Lawrence

No queen is complete without that perfect pair of jeans.

Like most young women, Sara Lawrence likes the ease and versatility of a trendy pair of jeans. And, it does not hurt that she looks so great in them.

"Jeans are fun and you can wear them for casual and other occasions. They stand up well on long journeys too."

"I just love my pearls. In fact, she has to make a conscious effort not to wear them every day. I think they are versatile, they make a tailored suit come alive and they give you that sophisticated look. They are fashionable but not frivolous so I love to wear them."

Jean Lowrie-Chin

Jean Lowrie-Chin and her BlackBerry are almost inseprable.

I know I am exposing my workaholic tendencies when I say that my "must-have" accessory is my Digicel BlackBerry (and, coincidentally my mulberry lipstick from Lancome)! I know people complain about stress caused by information overload - but, hey, who says you have to immediately answer every call or email?

Actually, my phone helps me to destress because book-marked on my browser are www.oprah.com and www.vanityfair.com - two of the best sites to escape into when the world starts spinning too fast!

So, here I have in the palm of my hand, my mailbox, cell phone, diary, jotter, browser (I can Google anything on the run), instant messenger, calculator, alarm clock, photo gallery, even a few nifty games. And I can use it wherever in the world I travel - what's not to love?
