Ricardo Williams' 90th minute goal spurred on Independence City Football Club to a 1-0 win over Central Links in the Juciful-sponsored St. Catherine Major League football match at the Independence City playing field on Saturday.

The win moved Independence City to 21 points as they maintained a one-point lead over Bodles FC, which beat Waterloo FC 1-0 on the day.

Coach of Independence City, Carl Reid, said his team is now gelling together.

"They are now understanding what I want from them. Once they concentrate we will get (positive) results like these," he added.

Central Links had the better scoring opportunities in the first half with Omar Dennis getting the easiest chance. Dennis received a through pass and had only Marlon Williams, the goalkeeper, to beat but fired straight to the custodian.

Good game

The pace of the game stepped up in the second half and Central Links looked as if they were going to score first, especially after an enterprising dribble through the Independence City defence by midfielder John Flemming, whose resulting shot forced an athletic save from Williams, who had a good game for the homesters.

Independence City grabbed three points from the contest when Hawthorne Ellis' free kick from the right side was fumbled by goalkeeper Levy and an alert Williams shot home the loose ball into the back of the net, creating pandemonium in the venue.

Anthony Brown, coach of Central Links, was bitter with the loss.

"It is very disappointing to lose, especially when you get a lot of chances to score. It all boils down to what each player wants out there."

Meanwhile, in the top-of-the-table clash at the Homestead playing field, D.B. Basovak and Tru-Juice drew 0-0. DB Basovak still lead Zone One with 29 points, while Tru-Juice inched to 28 points and second in the zone. In another game, Meadows edged Portmore Gardens 1-0.
