WAINARD TALBERT will be chasing his first win at today's Burger King 10K road race while Natoya Goule is out to extend her three season unbeaten run as the 2006 Foska Oats and Jamdammers Grand Prix Series closes in Portmore today.
The race, which will start and end at Portmore Town Town Centre, is set to run off at 3:00 p.m.
Both athletes, winners of the series for the past three seasons, lead this year's standing with the maximum 63 points and barring not finishing, they should complete their hat-tricks.
Talbert, of Lion Heart Track Club, has never won the Burger King 10K in five attempts while Goule has not lost a race on the road for the past three seasons.
Ready
The four-time champion said he is ready to win his first race in the Sunshine City of Portmore.
"I am expecting a good run, I am 100 per cent prepared, mentally and physically because my training programme is set to win this year's 10K," Talbert said.
In search of his first win, Talbert should expect strong challenges from the JDF's Phillip Edwards (50 points), who won last year's race, Kemoy Campbell of Bellefield (54) who won the Hugo Chambers 10K, Andre Drummond of UTech (55) and veteran Linton McKenzie.
On the female side, Goule is rarely tested.
UWI's Tanice Barrett (55 points), who has finished second to Goule all season, Tamica Thomas of G.C. Foster (52), who remains very competitive, Areita Martin (43) and Vere's Teneisa Davis (51), the only girl to beat Goule, should battle it out for the minor places. Meanwhile, Vere, with 63 points, and Edwin Allen, 61, lead the female and male school charges. Holmwood (56), Edwin Allen (55) and Manchester (51) are the next best female schools ,while Bellefield (56), Manchester (55) and Holmwood (51) follow the boys' leaders.
