Wray and Nephew Ltd. unveiled the 2006 Beaujolais Nouveau wine last Thursday, in the gardens of the Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

She (because only a 'lady' is this well-adorned), was dressed in multi-coloured apparel. She was of a deep ruby red colour filled with fruity aroma. She gave off a ripe red berry aroma with hints of black strawberry, raspberry and black cherry. She also had touches of bilberry, faded roses violets and hints of spices.

Beaujolais Nouveau is originally from France and every third Thursday in November she begins her journey through villages and towns of France to be shipped to the rest of the world. Banners proclaim the good news: Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé! (The new Beaujolais has arrived). This has become one of the most anticipated and animated rituals in the wine world. It has become a worldwide race to be the first to served to the new wine from the harvest. In doing so, the wine has been carried by motorcycle, balloon, truck, helicopter, jet, elephant, runners and rickshaws to get it to its final destination.

Well received

However, last Thursday she arrived via Air Jamaica to the Jamaica Pegasus to be introduced to the public. Pierre Lemaire, president of the Alliance Francais in Kingston, along with Marilyn Bennett from Wray and Nephew, introduced her. She was well received by wine patrons and connoisseurs.

The taste was hearty, smooth, unctuous and full-bodied, and captured the fruity and floral aroma. As she is swallowed, she gives off aromatic impressions sustained by pleasantly mellow fresh tannins.

Guests at the unveiling included: Taynia Nethersole, Pierre and Karlene Lemaire, Patrick Lynch, Carole Fullerton, Debra Taylor, Dr. John and Norma Soas, Angus Gordon, Leila Younis, Eleanor Jones, Yvonne Wilks, Mark Lalor, Louise McLeod Shereene Welsh, and Tania Nethersole. J. Wray and Nephew staff included: Judith Douglas, Sharon Murray, Vijay Matthews, Faye Barnes, Debbian Spence, Chesna Haber.
