Clarendon, Edwin Allen in stalemate
published: Friday | October 6, 2006

WESTERN BUREAU:

ZONE H FRONT-RUNNERS Clarendon College lost their 100 per cent win record in the ISSA Pepsi/JN daCosta Cup yesterday, but the point they secured from their 1-1 draw with Edwin Allen was enough to earn them one of the two inter-zone places from the group.

Clarendon, who moved to 16 points from their 10 games - eight more than second-place Lennon, join Frome Technical and Spalding as the early qualifiers for the inter-zone round. The point Edwin Allen got from the game has taken them to five points, which leaves them in fourth place in the six-team group. Over in the fairly competitive Zone J, indiscipline among team officials forced a premature end to the game between group leaders

Charlemont (14) and third-placed Ewarton with the score locked at 2-2 after 60 minutes. In the other game in the group, Bog Walk (11) jumped into second place with a 3-1 win over Glengoffe. In the top-of-the-table clash in Zone F between leaders DeCarteret

(seven) and second-place Manchester (five), the teams battled to a 1-1 draw, while in the other game in the group, Belair (three) opened their account with a 2-0 win over May Day (one), whose defeat relegated them to the bottom of the four-team zone.

Over in Zone L, Titchfield notched their eighth win from 10 starts with a 1-0 win over Seaforth, which took them to 25 points, three points clear of second-placed Happy Grove, who had a 2-0 win over struggling Yallahs. Seaforth's defeat, their fifth of the season, has virtually left them out in the cold as with a mere eight points from ten games they are unlikely to peg back the five teams in front of them.

In the other Zone L games, Fair Prospect (17 points) stumbled in their inter-zone bid when they were beaten by Port Antonio (19), who moved past them in the eight-team zone.

YESTERDAY'S RESULTS

Zone F: Belair 2 May Day 0, Manchester 1 DeCarteret 1. Zone H: Clarendon College 1 Edwin Allen 1. Zone J: Bog Walk 3 Glengoffe 1, Ewarton vs Charlemont (ended prematurely).

Zone L: Happy Grove 2 Yallahs 1, Port Antonio 2 Fair Prospect 0, St. Thomas Tech 6 Paul Bogle 0, Titchfield 1 Seaforth 0.
