Death certificate still not available
published: Friday | October 6, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

On August 15, my brother, Leonard Sylvester, a soldier with the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, collapsed and died while taking part in a military cadre at Newcastle, St. Andrew. An initial autopsy report accompanied the body which was flown back to Trinidad for burial on August 26 and the family was told that a death certificate would be issued within a few weeks.

It is well over seven weeks now and we still have not received a death certificate from the Jamaican authorities. Losing my brother under such circumstances, has been extremely traumatic and the family continues to be traumatised by this indefinite waiting. Why is this process taking so long?

I am, etc.,

CYRUS SYLVESTER
