'Your story has not been told until you tell it. You only need a fresh perspective from which to speak."
This might be true for many stories, but finding a new and fresh way of telling the same story is the dilemma in which Jah Mason finds himself on Wheat and Tears, his sixth album, this one released by Greensleeves Records.
Played out
The title is interesting enough, but the tales which Jah Mason tell are not new, nor are they interesting.
Sure, we all would like to think that we care and weep for the 'sufferation' of ghetto youths and we should rise and 'hail the king' This (and every) Morning. But when the same thing has been said by virtually every 'conscious' reggae act before you, it seems a bit played out.
Clichés notwithstanding, the album is musical, and for hardcore reggae fans, the disc should provide enough of a vibe to chill with.
However, that may not be enough to press the repeat button.
