SOMETHING EXTRA: Mixing and mingling
published: Monday | September 11, 2006

The diplomats came out last Thursday night to celebrate with their Brazilian colleagues as the South Americans celebrated another Independence Day. Sure they couldn't do it back home, but doing it in the land they have come to consider home is just as good! So it was all about the land of samba and soccer and we were there to witness the celebration. And literati lauded its own at the Peer Awards. More details in our weekend social section.

Meanwhile, Something Extra jetted into London, England, last Wednesday for the Virgin Atlantic tour operator and travel agent soirée at the Hammersmith Palais. After a number of Red Stripe beers and soul-stirring reggae music from 'Ambassador' Maxi Priest, everyone 'maxed' out.

Back in Montego Bay on Saturday night, villa Silent Waters, Great River, was transformed into glitz and glamour as locals rubbed shoulders with MACO Caribbean's impressive list of socialites at the launch of its new magazine Destinations.

The J$7 million E280 Mercedes Benz and Caribbean Producers premium wines, the orgasmic Fiji water and Absolut Vodka put the icing on the cake.

Montego Bay is fast becoming Jamaica's entertainment capital. Those in the know are now taking the second city by storm. So, the Trinis decided to invade the town's most exclusive villa Silent Waters for their soirée. Virgin Atlantic has plans to repeat the swell party they had in Jamaica in July. On Thursday night the airline and the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), London, hosted some 500 travel agents and tour operators to a party dubbed 'Montego A Go Go' at the Hammersmith Palais in London.
