An attorney-at-law specialising in intellectual property rights is encouraging media practitioners to make their inputs in the Copyright Bill, now being drafted.
According to Nicole Foga, partner in the firm Foga, Daley and Company, the involvement of local media practitioners is particularly important in light of the changes in the media and the impact of
technology.
Ms. Foga was speaking during the staging of the Caribbean Media Conference and Expo held at the Hilton Kingston hotel in New Kingston on Wednesday.
Ms. Foga also says media
practitioners should manage their intellectual property portfolio, and seek proper legal advice before making agreements about the ownership of unpublished work.
Avoid lengthy court
proceedings
This, she says, will allow practitioners to avoid lengthy court proceedings in the event of subsequent disputes over the ownership of the unpublished work.
"Be prepared to defend and enforce your intellectual property rights," she said.
