Dinners, departures and setting sail
published: Thursday | September 7, 2006

Canadian High Commissioner Claudio Valle and his lovely wife Louise are now back home in Canada but not before they were wined and dined by colleagues and friends.

And, as we speak, the hard-working business mogul and his family are getting ready to move into a new home from his present address to accommodate the new arrivals. Good luck to his wife who is pursuing her MBA - and doing so well she got an offer to lecture in Phoenix!

Meanwhile, out in the west, Something Extra was deck-side as the always affable former Chamber of Commerce president Winston Deer took off for some well earned fun and frolic on the beautiful Caribbean Sea.

Before they left our shores, Canadian High Commissioner Claudio Valle (left) and wife Louise (second right) were feted for their tenure here in Jamaica at a farewell dinner hosted by Chinese Ambassador Zhao Zhenyu and wife Wang Xiaoju. Who knew that both couples were colleagues and good friends long before their postings in Jamaica, as Ambassador Zhao was posted in Canada on three occasions! The familiarity doesn't end there as they arrived in Jamaica about the same time and the Chinese duo will be leaving soon as well! So expect a few farewell functions for them as well. - Claudine Housen/Staff Photographer

Ahoy there little shipmates, come sail away with grandpa because having children sure has its benefits. They provide grandchildren, who can be spoilt rotten on land and sea. 'Something Extra' caught up with captain of the 'Manta Ray', Winston Deer, who would like us to believe that he is retired. But he has his hands full, as he spent quality time with his grand-daughters, six-year-old Skylar Hamilton (back left) and three-year-old Ella Hamilton (seated) aboard his 42-foot catamaran this week. He also found time to frolic with wife Denise. So, in case you are wondering what the former President of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce is doing in 'retirement', he's having a little romp aboard the 'Manta Ray', which can be seen sailing just off the Montego Bay coastline. - Claudine Housen/Staff Photographer

Like we said, everybody wanted to throw a party for the Canadian High Commissioner Claudio Valle (second left) and wife Louise (left). Well on Sunday at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, it was the Mayor of Kingston Desmond McKenzie's turn. Also showing off their pearly whites for the cameras are Their Excellencies Prof. the Most Hon. Kenneth Hall, Governor-General of Jamaica, and The Most. Hon. Rheima Holding-Hall.

It is indeed time to raise the glasses as Claudio Valle (centre), departing Canadian High Commissioner, shares the toast with (from left) Colombian Ambassador Dr. Kent Francis, Foreign Affairs Minister Anthony Hylton, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Cedric Harper and Chinese Ambassador Zhao Zhenyu. The occasion was one of the Valle's farewell dinners, held at Seaview Avenue, on Friday September 1. - photos by Winston Sill/Freelance Photographer
