Hines
Having copped ten ones in the 2006 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, Jhenerr Hines, a former student of Montego Bay High School for Girls, is well on her way to pursuing a career in marketing.
"I was shocked when I heard my results. I had hopes and I knew that I could do it but at the same time I couldn't believe it," she told The Gleaner on Tuesday from her
dormitory room at Bethune-Cookman College in Florida.
Jhenerr also got a one in Caribbean history examination last year, bringing to 11 her total number of CSEC passes.
Parental support
The 17-year-old said her mother, Sharon Hines, and father, Rohan Hines, were instrumental in her achievements.
"Throughout everything my parents were behind me and when I decided to do extra subjects they paid for them and prayed for me every day," she said.
Jhenerr scored high in her Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and won three scholarships - one full and two part-time. She took up the full 'presidential scholarship' at Bethune-Cookman College, and is pursuing a degree in business administration, with a concentration in marketing.
The young achiever said she plans to return home after her studies to establish a marketing company.
While at Montego Bay High, Jhenerr was the president of the computer club, vice-president of the dance, drama and speech club, and vice-president and co-founder of the art club.
Jhenerr is a firm believer that if you "put God first, all is possible."
She gained ones in accounts, Spanish, principles of business,
mathematics, English language, office administration, information technology, social studies, human
and social biology and clothing
and textiles.
