Racist comment hurts Goodworks Int'l boss
published: Thursday | September 7, 2006

Andrew Young, the 74-year-old head of Goodworks Inter-national, the U.S. company with which former Prime Minister P.J. Patterson has taken up a job, was forced to step down from his post as public spokesman for retail giant Wal-Mart, after making racist comments about ethnic shopkeepers.

In an interview with a newspaper in Los Angeles, Young accused traditional corner shops of ripping off their customers. "First it was the Jews, then it was the Koreans and now it's the Arabs; very few black people own these stores," he said. The former U.N. ambassador and Atlanta mayor was heavily criticised because of his comments and resigned in mid-August.
