A seven-member delegation from the Kingdom of Thailand, breezed through the island en route to Canada as part of a lobbying tour for their candidate for the next United Nations Secretary General.

The group headed by Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Kantathi Suphamongkhon arrived in the island from Brazil on Tuesday and left on Wednesday. They were hosted by businesswoman Thalia Lyn, Honorary Consul-General to Thailand and her husband Capt. Michael Lyn, at a dinner in Stony Hill on Tuesday night.

The Thais were very impressed by the warmth and hospitality of Jamaicans and expressed gratitude for our help in the Tsunami recovery effort. They totally enjoyed the scrumptious fare that included our signature jerk chicken and the fellowship of colleagues in the diplomatic corps.

The ambassador-designate Virasakdi Futrakul will return later in the year to present his credentials. Based in Washington D.C., he has responsibility for Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.

Dr. Kantathi has been invited to attend November's Consuls General conference slated for Montego Bay and our Foreign Minister Anthony Hylton has been invited to lead a trade delegation to the Kingdom of Thailand.

Among the guests in attendance at the dinner were: Opposition Leader Bruce Golding and his wife, Lorna; Chinese Ambassador Zhao Zhenyu and his wife Madam Wang Xiaoju; Indian High Commissioner Kailash Agrawal; NCB's Patrick Hylton; Ambassador Maxine Roberts; The Gleaner's Oliver Clarke; Raymond Chang, chairman of Canada's second largest mutual fund company, and companion Donnette Chin-Loy: Charley and Lisa Johnston: Richard Chen of the Super Plus chain, and wife Lisa; Delroy and Pat Chuck; Christopher Tufton; Captain David McRae (soon to be deputy consul-general to Thailand); Ann-Marie and Michael Feanny; Howard and Linda Mitchell; Kingston Restaurant Week's (KRW) dynamic duo, Stephanie Scott and Tamara Williams; Laura and Dheru Tanna; Anthony Chang, and more.
