The Editor, SirI have been reading the latest on the UWI campus relative to security, but the one thing missing from all the articles is that people fail to understand that the best type of security is the one that each and everyone provides for his or herself.
I have been to the campus on many occasions and I have identified the presence of basic security in place like what I have seen at most places.
Students, lecturers and all other staff members must get real and start help to protect themselves. There is no indication that close protection officers or bodyguards are part of the UWI deal, so people must help to protect themselves.
We must not forget that the latest attacker is no stranger to the victim and when one is attacked by his own friend and company, I am wondering how the basic security in that sense would have made any sense. People must take responsibility for some of the things that happen and we must be honest and play fair.
I am, etc.,
