JUST OVER 450 delegates from across the Caribbean are meeting
in Kingston this week for the third regional Youth Encuentro, an assembly of
young people in the conference of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and
the Americas (MCCA).
Delegates drawn from the eight Districts of the MCCA - Bahamas/Turks and Caicos Islands; Haiti; Leeward Islands; South Caribbean; Panama; Belize/Honduras; Guyana, and Jamaica.
ISSUES FOR CONFERENCE
Among the issues to be examined during the week of meetings at the Jamaica Conference Centre are Christian stewardship and the environment as well as economic and social issues facing the Caribbean. Delegates are also expected to share cross-cultural ideas and experiences, and participate in worship and open air services throughout the week.
The first Youth Encuentro was held in 1997, and a second in 2002.
The Encuentro begins this evening with an opening ceremony at the UWI Chapel, Mona, and will end on July 31.
