Expo premieres new back-to-school feature
published: Monday | July 24, 2006

ORGANISERS OF the annual Denbigh Agricultural and Industrial Show, to be held in May Pen, Clarendon from August 5-7, have created a new concept this year, dubbed: 'Back-to-School Expo'.

The expo, which is a part of the upgraded 'Kiddies Village Fun Zone', is geared towards patrons with children attending school.

Barrington Bucknor, manager of the Denbigh showground, explained that the general idea of the expo was to help parents and students prepare for the new academic year, while they enjoy the recreational and educational activities that Denbigh has to offer.

"At the back-to-school centre, persons may take books for exchange or they may take books for sale," Mr. Bucknor explained further. He said this was a great way to save on text books, as persons could purchase second-hand books that were in good condition at reasonable prices.

The centre would also facilitate persons selling school shoes, uniforms and sporting gear. "Just about everything that will be needed for school will be on sale," he said.

Mr. Bucknor said that schools in the Denbigh region have been specially invited to participate in this year's expo, but noted that the invitation was open to schools islandwide. "Hopefully by next year, the schools' curricula will be available ahead of time, so that we can better prepare for the expo, which we are planning to make a permanent part of the Denbigh experience," he added.
