JDF march past Trelawny
published: Sunday | July 16, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

ON A day when the heavy rains dampened most of the Capital and Credit All-Island limited-overs cricket competition, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) were red-hot as they blasted their way to a 121-run victory over Trelawny at Up Park Camp yesterday.

Led by an impressive knock from Wayne Cuff - 87 from 97 balls, and Mel Wint's 33, the army men racked up a daunting 296 total from a revised 39 overs.

In response, Trelawny, who never really made a match of it, could only manage 175-8 at the end of their 39 overs.

The visitors seemed to entertain very little hope of getting anywhere near the total and saw their hopes vanish with the dismissal of Lorenzo Ingram, 57, who fell with the score at 92-3. Cordell Simpson made 24 runs in a losing cause for Trelawny.

Elsewhere, little play was actually completed.

AT KIRKVINE: Manchester, sent to bat first, were 220-9 led by Gary Graham's 81 and Danielle Ricketts' 38. After 15.5 overs, Hanover were 32-1 but the inclement weather prevented any further play.

AT ALPART: Police were 183 after 45.5 overs with Demtrius Francis making 84 and Renford Pinnock Junior 38. For St. Elizabeth, Ainsley Goss claimed 4-24 while Alton Beckford took 3-38. In reply, St. Elizabeth were 27-1 after 5.1 overs when the rain came.

AT GRAY'S INN: Kensington reached 191-6 led by Wavell Hinds' knock of 63 not out and Maurice Kepple's 46. However, the players were unable to take the field after lunch.

AT MAXFIELD PARK: In the only other game that had a result, St. James recorded an eight-run victory over Kingston and St. Andrew. Batting first, St James made 118 behind Owen Brown's 21. In reply Kingston were all out for 110, led by Jason Hutton's 40 runs. Elroy Dyer snared 5-32 for the St. James team.

The match between Portland and Kingston at the Folly Oval never got under way due to waterlogged field, while Boys' Town picked up all three points from St. Thomas at the Goodyear Oval due to the ground being inadequately prepared.
