THE EDITOR, Sir:
LIKE MANY other Jamaicans, I viewed the election of Mrs. Portia Simpson Miller with much hope and anticipation for a change in the way things are done in this country, as I thought that she more than anyone else would put people first, as has been the promise of her PNP party for many years.
I have closely watched the cement crisis for signs that Portia would handle the situation in a firm and determined manner and I am bitterly disappointed that she has chosen to back Minister Paulwell when everyone wanted accountability from those in authority. What are we left to expect if the Prime Minister dismisses incompetence and mismanagement in the same way as was once said to be youthful exuberance by the last PNP leader?
When I look at the leadership of Portia and see a once proud PNP party disunited and fighting, and I contrast this with the leadership of Bruce Golding and see the opposite effect he has had in uniting the JLP, I wonder if this does not offer insight into the effect they will have on Jamaica.
It is time for a change in Jamaica and from what I see in both parties, it is not woman time, it is Bruce's time.
I am, etc.,
