A 16-YEAR-OLD schoolgirl, who was blindfolded and abducted by four men on Saturday, has been reunited with her family following an intense operation by the St. Andrew South police and their colleagues from the Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID).
Reports are that the missing girl was dumped along Maxfield Avenue, Kingston 13, about 3:00 p.m. yesterday, shortly after arrangements were made for the abductors to collect a ransom of $150,000, which they demanded from the victim's family.
According to a member of the investigating team, the girl, who attends one of Kingston's popular high schools, was picked up by the lawmen who were monitoring the situation.
"We have arrested a man who turned up to
collect the ransom," head of the St. Andrew South CIB, Deputy Superintendent Michael Hugh Phipps, told The Gleaner last night.
GIRL RECEIVING COUNSELLING
DSP Phipps said the traumatised girl is now receiving counselling from experts. Police reports are that the girl disappeared on Saturday after she was harshly spoken to by her father.
It is alleged that she left her home with the understanding that she had gone to visit her mother. But after several hours, when the father checked with the mother, the child was not there and her whereabouts were unknown.
The matter was reported to the police who commenced an immediate investigation. The Gleaner understands that the victim said she was blindfolded by four men along Bay Farm Road.
