MY DEARS, by now y'all have heard of Patrick Ewing - you know, that Jamaican-born towering godling who went on to make an international name for himself, and with that, some recognition for the land of his birth, after becoming a powerhouse in the American NBA?
Well, my dears, brace yourselves for another Jamaican star, but this time the new star is emerging from within the ranks of the WNBA.
Doves, she has been featured in USA Today, The New York Daily News, New Yorker Insider.com, ESPN, ABC Today, and quite frankly she is the most talked about, most written about, the most interviewed athlete playing in the WNBA. The lady in question is currently the toast of the, American's WNBA, and regarded by industry insiders, watchers and sports commentators as the hottest thing in Women's basketball at the moment! And dears, the media and women basketball fans simply can't get enough of this obviously, fabulously talented young lady.
SHE IS SIZZLING
Luvs you know when you're hot, you are not allowed to do anything but sizzle, and she is sizzling at the moment like everybody's business! And we are talking hot-like-that, and trotting like queen of all the court she surveys, and how!
Luvs, no doubt about it, the new sensation of America's women's basketball at the moment, is definitely and unquestionably Tina Charles!
Dubbed the top senior in the country, the 6 ft 3 power-forward, for Christ The King High School in New York, is all set to take her career and education to another level as she is slated to enter the University of Connecticut next year. She is expected to step into that university's starting line-up, and thus opening up the prospects for the national team.
Now, y'all know that there's an added touch of interest in Miss Charles as she is from Jamaican stock. She was born in Spanish Town, St. Catherine. Her mom is the charming Angela Holgate, formerly of Ensom City in the nation's first capital and now of Queens, New York. She has not only raised a fine and bright young lady, but has nurtured a rising star in the process.
Well my dears, with Tina Charles being the hottest thing in the WNBA, she has been the darling of sports shows and morning television across the US and two Tuesdays ago the budding star and her mom made a guest appearance on 'This Morning With NBC'. From New York to California, via Kingston, to Spanish Town, and Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago, family, friends and well-wishers all got on the telephone waking each other up to catch the interview.
And there she was, with the poise and grace of the gazelle, her mom cool, calm and collected by her side and looking like all that, she gave her first morning prime-time interview and stamped that inimitable island class on the proceedings. It won her countless more fans, but warmed the cockles of the hearts of the Jamaican communities across the U.S., who had tuned in to see her.
And so we say congratulations with nothing but champagne wishes for the future!
And continuing to speak of fabulous people - Champagne toasts to Edward Seaga and son Christopher Seaga, and Dr. Omar Davies, who all celebrate their birthday, today.
Birthday greeting to style icon and Pulse founder/chair, Kingsley Cooper, who will celebrate his special day, come this here Friday.
COCKTAIL RECEPTION
And my dears, it was all about French Ambassador HE Francis Hurtut, last week as he not only played host to a marvellous cocktail reception to launch the annual European Film Festival, at his official residence last Friday, despite less than ideal weather conditions, but proved the perfect hosts during the constant drizzle. So much so, that guests are still talking and the buzz is it was all good.
And the word is now out, as there's no gainsaying the fact that not only did the charming Janet Farrow throw the party of parties to mark her first 50 years of life, she also throws dee-vine little soireés, as was the case last Saturday, when she hosted a fabulous little number at her swanky Jacks Hills residence for Chicago based real estate powerbroker, Joe English, now on his 106th visit to this fine island!
My dears, it was a case of fabness beyond compare, as truly, Ms. Farrow seemingly has the secret formula for fabulous and intimate soireés.
