Resolution against child killers
published: Sunday | May 28, 2006

ANOTHER GOVERNMENT Senator is calling for harsher penalties for child killers. Government Senator Norman Grant wants persons responsible for the killing of children to face severe punishment.

Moving a resolution in the Senate on Friday, Senator Grant said criminals who are found guilty of these heinous crimes should receive the highest possible punishment. His call followed an earlier recommendation from his colleague, Senator Trevor Munroe, who suggested that child killers should face the death penalty.

With more than 20 children killed violently since the start of the year, seven in one week alone, Senator Grant wants extraordinary measures to be taken to bring these murderers to justice. In 2005, 105 children were killed violently.

He condemned the attacks on children and called on Jamaicans to promote wholesome values and attitudes and respect for life.
