Hylton off to talks on Iran's nuclear programme
published: Sunday | May 28, 2006

Hylton

AFTER TAKING the Oath of Allegiance and joining the ranks of the Upper House on Friday, Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister Senator Anthony Hylton had to cut short his first sitting, as he departed for Malaysia to participate in a meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, at the ministerial level.

Senator Hylton said that among the critical issues to be addressed while overseas is the growing debate on Iran's nuclear ambitions. According to the minister, Cabinet has sanctioned his visit to Malaysia because (the issue) is more than a passing interest to Jamaica.

"I think the country can appreciate that unless we are able to bring to a peaceful resolution this issue ... I believe the implication for all of us, not only in Jamaica but the world, is one that should not be contemplated," he stressed.

While in South East Asia, Mr. Hylton will also support the candidature of Stephen Vasciannie, consultant in the Justice Ministry, for a position on the International Law Commission.
