PJ still constituency chairman
published: Monday | April 24, 2006

Claudia Gardner, Gleaner Writer

HANOVER:

THREE WEEKS after he resigned as Prime Minister, P.J. Patterson says that he will remain the chairman of the People's National Party (PNP) Eastern Westmoreland Constituency for a while yet.

"There is one political position which I still hold, and that is chairman of the constituency of Eastern Westmoreland. I have not formally tendered my resignation because the process of final transition has not yet been completed and I intend to do so at the appropriate time and occasion," declared Mr. Patterson last Saturday at a banquet held in his honour by the Eastern West-moreland Constituency executive at the Sandals Whitehouse European Village and Spa in Westmoreland.

Mr. Patterson explained: "What I can say is that until a decision is taken, as to whether or not an election is to take place, I shall not be tendering my formal resignation as chairman because I intend to be present at the time of nomination to present my successor as chairman of the constituency."

Mr. Patterson also urged the executive to start mobilising supporters in the constituency for the upcoming general elections, in a bid to defeat the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).

"There is no doubt in my mind that the JLP will be coming to campaign heavily in the constituency, but the results will still be the same: They are going to get a beating!" Mr Patterson claimed.
