IT MAKES practical sense for men have a good pair of black shoes. However, with so many functions to attend and places to go, men need different pairs of shoes for all occasions. Plus, it would be insulting to imply that men care nothing about shoes but that's all women are interested in. That aside, at least one pair of an athletic hard rocker, work-type boots, dressy, lug soles, loafers and sandals is best for the wardrobe.
The next time you go shoe shopping treat yourself and ensure that you have different pairs for different occasions.
RULES FOR MEN'S SHOES
* Select shoes that match or are darker than your pants.
* Socks do not necessarily have to to match your shoes. Instead, think of your socks as you would a tie - an item that can bring the whole outfit together.
* If wearing a belt, try to match your shoes with it.
* You can wear almost any colour or style shoe with jeans, but avoid very shiny ones that were obviously intended for more dressy outfits. Boots, lug soles, sneakers, loafers and sandals all work great with jeans. When choosing shoes for jeans, let the style of your shirt help to guide you. For example - a sporty, polo shirt might work with a loafer; T-shirts go well with sneakers or retro-style shoes; long, artsy button-downs work well with sandals or mock toe Oxford styles.
* With dress pants, choose the same type of shoe that you might wear with a suit. Shinier materials usually indicate dressier shoes, with less bulky heels and soles.
* Black shoes pair well with navy, grey or black pants.
* Brown shoes are best suited to tan, brown, beige, greens and other darker earth tones.
* Tan shoes look great with lighter earth tones, blue, beige, lighter tan or white.
