TODAY MARKS the start of a three-day youth celebration in the heart of Trench Town at the site of the old Ambassador Theatre, Collie Smith Drive.
Organised by church leaders and international youth and community organisation, Fusion, the Love Festival was first held in Trench Town in 2004, with a further five having being held in Jamaica this year. The goal is to bring together children from different communities for 'peace, celebration and fun'.
GAMES
Activities include a giant game of snakes and ladders on which the children walk on the board, a basketball shooting competition, Easter card making, a bounce-about, a hoola-hoop competition, face painting, balloon sculpting, stilt walking and bubble blowing.
"Even in cases when there was serious tensions between rival communities, the infectious laughter and joy of a Lovefest has melted that and left an atmosphere of trust and hope in its place," said Fusion West Indies
Coordinator David Campbell of past events in Trench Town and nearby Majesty Gardens.
Fusion has previously put on such events in tandem with local churches in countries including South Africa, Canada, Australia, Albania, Germany, Greece, the U.K., Ireland and Jamaica.
