Now or never for Police National
published: Saturday | April 15, 2006

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

POLICE NATIONAL must beat leaders August Town if they harbour hopes of winning the Jamaica National/ KSAFA Super League title.

With only three rounds to go, the policemen are in third position on 31 points, four behind joint leaders August Town and Meadhaven, both locked on 35 points.

Police National have quietly sneaked into third position and are looking ominous and a win today could really propel them into title-winning position, especially with the top teams struggling lately.

August Town took over top position on goal difference after drawing 0-0 with struggling Rae Town last week while Meadhaven went down 1-0 Greenwich Town.

TITLE FIGHT

An August Town win could turn the title fight into a two team battle with Meadhaven and all but end Police National ambitions.

Second-place Meadhaven could regain sole leadership with a win over relegation battlers Rae Town should August Town slip up.

But third from bottom Rae Town on 20 points will be a dangerous team hunting three valuable points as only six points separate the seventh to 11th-placed teams.

Cellar team Shortwood United, on four points, have been relegated to the Major League and it will be interesting to see who joins them.

Barbican on 25 points, Greenwich Town on 24, Mountain View on 23, Rae Town on 20 and Bull Bay on 19 points all can be relegated.

But realistically it looks a straight fight between last year's beaten finalist Bull Bay and Rae Town.

PROMOTED

Meanwhile Major League outfits Duhaney Park and Cavalier have already won promotiond to the Super League, even with three rounds to go.

Duhaney Park lead the table with 36 points from 17 games, with Cavalier in second on 34 from 16 games. Third-place Elleston Flats are on 24 points from 18 games and cannot catch the top two teams.

Whitfield Town on 10 points have been relegated to the the Syd Bartlett competition and could be joined by Brown's Town, second-from-bottom on 14 points.
